NCFE and the NQF

Stonebridge Associated College’s Foothealth Practitioner Course carries NCFE Level 4 accreditation. This is good news for the College and great news for our Foothealth Practitioner students as it means that on completion of your Foothealth Practitioner Course you will receive a nationally recognised award at a level of learning equivalent to level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, which is currently the highest equivalent level of accreditation for a Foothealth Practitioner Course mapped to the NQF in the U.K.!

Who are the NCFE?

NCFE is the UK's longest established awarding body, recognised as a highly professional and responsive organisation, committed to maintaining excellent customer service and a friendly approach.

NCFE is one of the UK’s fastest growing national awarding bodies, designing and awarding qualifications that are nationally recognised to meet the needs of learners and employers.

NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

NCFE provide a wide range of qualifications accredited by Ofqual at different levels and in a variety of subject areas. NCFE also offer NVQs, Key Skills, Basic Skills and Entry Level qualifications.

Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that a learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE. The centre delivering the programmes has been licensed by NCFE on the basis of its own quality systems.

Learners successfully completing NCFE accredited programmes receive an externally accredited and nationally recognised NCFE certificate.

Our NCFE accredited courses are accredited to various levels (from level 1 – level 5). These courses lead to a nationally recognised NCFE certificate for successful learners. That means that the course is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to that level on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Last year over a quarter of a million learners from almost 1000 training organisations chose NCFE as the awarding body to help them move their careers forward.

What is the NQF?

The NQF compares different levels of qualifications and thus helps students make informed decisions about what types of qualifications they should be pursuing. This also assists the student with their selection of appropriate progression routes.

The NQF is the educational framework endorsed by the three regulatory authorities (QCA, ACCAC & CCEA) and it defines levels of learning in terms of both academic and vocational qualifications. The NQF aims to:

  • Promote public and professional confidence in the integrity of national awards
  • Promote lifelong learning by providing progression routes
  • Promote access, motivation and achievement in education and training
  • Avoid duplication and overlap of qualifications, while covering all learning needs.

NQF Structure

Our Foot Health Practitioner Course has been nationally accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 4 on the NQF, which means that the course is the same level as NVQ 3/4 or a Certificate of Higher Education. Furthermore, the Stonebridge Associated College Foot Health Practitioner Course is currently at the highest equivalent level of accreditation for a Foothealth Practitioner Course mapped to the NQF in the U.K.!
