Dates of Clinical Days

While we at Stonebridge Associated Colleges believe that theoretical knowledge is essential to becoming a competent and successful Foot Health Practitioner, we strongly feel it is equally important to understand how the taught theoretical knowledge can be applied in practice. Without practical skills it often becomes difficult for the theoretical concepts to be effectively applied.

The goal of our practical training is to provide students with on-the-job practical experience. Practical training in this context provides the opportunity for our students to apply the theory based knowledge they have experienced during their course to "real-life" working situations and environments.

Clinical Dates

You can choose whether you want your practical training to last:

  • One week (5 working days). One week practical training sessions are normally held twice a month and run from Monday to Friday.
  • Two weeks (11 clinical days). Two week practical training sessions are normally held once a month and run for 2 consecutive weeks from Monday to Saturday during the first week (although attendance on Saturday is optional and all students have Sunday off) and from Monday to Friday during the following second week.
  • For more details on booking and availability please contact the College.

Practical training gives students the opportunity to find solutions for real problems, develop professional competence and other skills, adopt and sustain ethical values and learn the norms of the professional life.

Our practical training acts as an extremely effective means of preparing our students for the challenges they are likely to face in practice as well as allowing them to put their theory into practice in a safe, controlled and supervised environment.

In the past we have found that practical training is an ideal way for students to round off their theoretical training.

Topics Covered

The practical training is designed to give the student good clinical principles and practice. You will gain first hand experience of:

  • General cleaning and autoclaves
  • General presentation
  • Record keeping
  • Use of BURS, nail nippers, foot dressers and blacks files
  • Patient care
  • The treatment of common disorders
  • Dealing with diabetes
  • Skin & nail conditions
  • Padding & dressing techniques
  • Scalpel techniques
  • Practice on real clients
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning

Practical training is conducted via several tutor lectures, demonstrations on real patients and group discussions. This unique blend of delivery formats ensures that our students get the most out of their practical training.

The Perfect Place to Train

When the time comes to begin your practical training, you can rest assured that you will carry it out in the best conditions. Our new Foot Health Centre on the College Campus has been built to cater specifically for Foot Health training and thus it is equipped accordingly.

Whats more, the College is situated in the tourist town of Bude on the dramatic North Cornish Coast. Thus not only will you have access to the best facilities, but you will be training in a calm, relaxing and friendly environment away from the demands and pressures of city life.

Alternatively, why not bring your family and loved ones with you? Then you can fit your practical training in with a peaceful sea-side holiday!
